The Ice Station

Home to the only indoor ice-skating rink in the Western Cape, The Ice Station at GrandWest invites amateur and professional ice-skaters to hone their skating skills on an Olympic-sized rink. Open all-year round, ice skating at GrandWest is one of the most popular all-year-round activities enjoyed by kids and adults and makes for a fun afternoon out.

Important Notice: The Ice Station Public Session Closures

Please note that The Ice Station will be hosting the 2026 IIHF World Championship IIIA from 13 to 19 April. 

During this period, the following ice skating sessions will be closed to the public:

Important Notice:

Please be advised that we will be hosting the Young Star’s Competition on Wednesday, 27 August from 14h00 to 18h00.
Kindly note that due to this event, our public skating session from 14h00 to 16h00 will be closed.

Normal sessions will resume thereafter.

Reminiscent of a winter wonderland, The Ice Station offers free-style open-air ice-skating for individuals and groups. If you’re looking for a different but fun way to celebrate a kid’s birthday party, GrandWest ice rink offers special rates for groups – enquire about our packages here.

As the only indoor ice-skating rink in the Western Cape, this is where the pros come to practise their jumps, turns, loops and twizzles. For those looking for formal classes, The Ice Station also offers skating classes, ice-hockey tournaments, figure-skating programmes, shows and events. It also has a mini, supervised ice rink for under-fives.

No it is not necessary. Skates are available to rent at the Ice Station.

We have a First Aid facility and clinic onsite to attend to any injuries.

During the Saturday 09h00 to 11h30, Sunday 12h00 to 14h30 and 18h00 to 20h30 sessions, the ice is divided in half. One half of the ice rink is for guests and the other half for the 'learn to skate programs'.

A B2B (back to basics program) is run every quarter for six weeks on a Friday during the 18h00 to 20h30 session, where a third of the ice surface is used for one hour from 18h00 to 19h00.

Outside of the "guest" session hours, figure skating and ice hockey take place.

The rink would be closed for "guest" skating if we are hosting competitions and tournaments.
