Making local procurement one of the fundamental objectives of socio-economic development gives rise to the opportunity to empower local communities and transform lives.  As Sun City Resort, we are so confident that we can source services required for our business from the local communities that we believe 50% of the Resort’s measured local spend will be generated from predominantly black owned enterprises by end 2019. Furthermore we believe a total of 30% of the Resort’s measured local spend must come from predominantly black women owned enterprises.

These targets can only be achieved if we improve consulting and engaging with those affected by the Resort’s procurement, enable proactive procurement from local businesses and make the process transparent, fair and of the highest ethics as we expect of ourselves as a unit of Sun International. Summarily proper corporate governance processes need to be followed. To realise such social and economic impact, we will require an innovative approach.

This means a concerted effort to increase supplier development beneficiaries. Our SED team will aid the procurement department to encourage the establishment of Joint Venture agreements or Enterprise Development agreements with experienced suppliers in the industry. However commercial support is also essential for this transformation to be truly sustainable. Other business organisations operating in the North West must join hands with the resort and establish an official joint local procurement initiative.
