Sun International’s Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom donated stationery valued at R141 000 to a rural school in KwaZulu-Natal.
Siphosethu Primary, which serves the rural communities of Amawoti, Cornubia, and Waterloo on the outskirts of Mount Edgecombe, received a massive delivery from Sibaya Casino of pens, pencils, exercise books, erasers, rulers, library bags, educational wall charts, felt-tip pens and crayons.
Sibaya Human Resources Manager Karen Hammond said they received an application from the school a few months ago and didn’t hesitate to respond to the request.
“It’s important that learners have the tools to fulfil their basic educational needs, and stationery is critical. Furthermore, this is a deserving school with very keen learners who may just turn out to be future engineers, doctors or teachers. We hope that our contribution motivates them,” she said.
Hammond encouraged other corporates and community leaders to also consider assisting the impoverished school.
Principal Zaba Gumede-Luthuli thanked Sibaya for their assistance. “This is indeed a godsend. During Covid, lessons were reduced, and our learners were further hampered due to the shortage of stationery. It was certainly affecting their progress and morale.
“The stationery will now go a long way to helping in their overall development. We want to express our appreciation to Sibaya Casino. We are sure this gesture will serve jointly to inspire our children and help us deliver quality education, despite our financial shortcomings,” she said.
