IASCA South Africa
IASCA South Africa, exists to govern fair competitions regardless of product brand and to promote the growth of these Auto Sound Challenge Competitions
This event is well attended mainly by male spectators and competitors who bring along their entire family to enjoy the day.
Competitors travel from afar afield as Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg at their own expense, often having to hire a rollback truck to transport their competition cars. These competitors have also spent many man hours preparing their vehicles and the reward for all their effort is international industry recognition and a trophy.
The Event: 09 and 10 DECEMBER 2017
International SPL Format: Sound-off 10am – 5pm R150 entry
This is IASCA’s SPL competition format. SPL Divisions are based on the experience and industry position of the competitor and the level of modifications to the vehicle. SPL classes are based on the cumulative total of all subwoofer cone surfaces in square inches. Once you’ve calculated the total subwoofer cone area of your sound system, refer to the vehicle criteria for each SPL Division to determine what Division you will be able to compete in. And that’s it! You’re on your way to competing in IASCA SPL competition! Sound Pressure Level (SPL) measurement in decibels is registered using the Termlab meter. Determining the winner is simple; the highest score in each class wins! This format tests the sound pressure in the vehicle measured in decibels
ISQ – International Sound Quality – R150 per entry
This event is typically run on the Saturday and showcases the best looking and best sounding cars in the country, this is where the men are separated from the boys in a format which judges not only the aesthetic appeal of the vehicle but also the very complex listening environment. The vehicles are judged based on a set of criteria which rate it according to the tonality of the vehicle as well as how the equipment is installed. Craftsmen spend 100’s of hours building the perfect sound and looking vehicles and many more hours tuning them to sound like a live environment.
