Ice, Ice, Baby
When it comes to your own “Holiday on Ice”, the Ice Station at Grand West Casino and Entertainment World, is a favourite family activity.
The Olympic-sized main rink caters for all skill levels, from those who know their Butterfly Jumps to those who are more in the Bellyflop category. There is also a separate supervised children’s area for kids under five years old to start working on their pivots or just enjoy the only ice rink in Cape Town. You can even book yourself a children’s party here.
And if you’re worried you’ll be skating on thin ice, having never done this before, then there are a few things you can do to ensure you stay dry.
- For a start, walk around on the rubber mat outside the rink and with your skates on, just getting used to the feel of them and adjusting your balance.
- Then move onto the ice, holding onto the wall as you get used to the different surface. Relax, and don’t worry about falling. You will fall, so get used to it.
Before you know it, you’ll be Axel Jumping and Flutzing in no time.
