The Winner Takes It All

The winner will receive the biggest prize package in the competition’s history.

With a prize package worth over R200 000, the 2019 GrandWest Open Mic Jazz competition in Cape Town has become a sought-after platform to launch South Africa’s future jazz stars.

Now in its eleventh year, the Open Mic Jazz singing competition has evolved into Cape Town’s most popular jazz talent contest, providing a platform for aspiring singers to launch their careers. Hosted by GrandWest Casino, in conjunction with Spotlight Music, entrants are invited to prepare a song from the Open Mic Jazz repertoire list before making their way through a tough audition round that culminates in successive rounds and a grand finale where one lucky star will claim the prestigious title.

This year the stakes are high and, with a string of prizes, the winner will walk away with the biggest prize package in the competition’s history and the chance to start their career on a high note. As the headline sponsor for Cape Town’s most popular singing competition, GrandWest will hand over a cash cheque worth R40 000 to the top performer at the finals at Jackson Hall on the 16th of October 2019 while the runner-up and second runner-up will receive R15 000 and R10 000 respectively.

The winner will receive private coaching from Spotlight Music and vocal training at Kim Kallie Performance Academy to the combined value of R16 000. Our newly crowned GrandWest Open Mic Jazz star will also receive a top-of-the-range microphone and PA system from Wild & Marr worth over R27 000.

To cap off the impressive prize package, the winner will also get the chance to record their own demo with The Nut House Recording Studios (worth R15 000), while Steven Booth Photography and Ian Bredenkamp Media will help shape the winner’s image with a professional photoshoot and media profiling to the tune of R24 000.

With a jam-packed schedule and a year of concerts ahead, this year’s winner will once again experience the adrenaline of performing live at the 2019 Worcester Sunsplash Jazz & Comedy Festival as well as the 2020 editions of Jazz on the Rocks and the MosJazz Festival in Mossel Bay thanks to Camissa Solutions. Returning to the place where it all started, our 2019 winner will be back at GrandWest’s Jackson Hall to perform for fans, friends and family – watch this space for details.

The winner will be rewarded with a much-needed rest with accommodation at Grand Hotel at GrandWest.

With the stage set for an epic finale, don’t miss the chance to see who will take the 2019 Open Mic Jazz title at the Market Hall on the 16th of October 2019 starting at 20h00.
