Louw on a high after golf with Kelly
ST ANDREWS, Scotland (6 October 2017) – Former Springbok rugby player and avid surfer Rob Louw realised a dream when he played golf with surfing legend Kelly Slater in the first round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on Thursday.
“When I was being treated for cancer in America a few years ago Kelly phoned me to offer his support, and we made a deal that we would one day play together in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship,” said Louw.
“It was fantastic to do that here. He’s such a special guy and a hero of mine. To be his age and still competing against the world’s best makes him the greatest athlete the world has seen, in my opinion.”
The first round was made even sweeter for Louw as he and his professional partner, Thomas Detry, finished the day tied for the lead in the team competition.
