One of the main attractions to the Royal Swazi Spa Valley resort is the 18-hole championship golf course. It’s found in one of most beautifully scenic locations with a unique vantage point waiting to be enjoyed from every tee and green. The course takes its shape from the Lugogo Mountain Range and curves gently down into the valley where the Royal Swazi Spa hotel and Lugogo Sun are situated.
One of the Best Swaziland Golf Courses
The Royal Swazi Spa Valley golf course is a par 72 that opened in 1966. The course is played to a length of 6,166 metres from the men's tees and a length of 5,258 metres from the women’s tees. The first nine holes are fairly level, while the second nine fully exploit the mountainous terrain in a challenging finish to a full 18 holes worth of play.
As with all prominent Swaziland golf courses, the greens and fairways are in tip-top condition. The greens have been planted with Durban Country Club grass, which provides a thinner and therefore faster putting surface that meets PGA standards. The fairways are planted with hardy Kikuyu, which stands up well to constant use and remains relatively green throughout the year.
Avid golfers can look forward to a number of challenging features at the Royal Swazi Spa golf course, including lakes, gullies of thick vegetation, out-of-bounds areas, steep bunkers, swirling breezes and clusters of magnificent trees and indigenous plants.
For those who want to get a little extra practice in before their game, the putting green is available for use, situated close to the club house. Full change rooms, lockers and showers are available, as well as a halfway house, restaurant and bar and the Pro Shop. Golf carts are available for hire, although we recommend walking the course for an invigorating alternative.
