He made his stand-up comedy debut at the Smirnoff International Comedy Festival in 1998 – never having even seen a stand-up show before – and has been a fixture on the South African entertainment scene, ever since. Always current, seriously sharp and never shy, Kau has toured across the continent, starred on both big and small screens and kick-started the massively-successful, annual Blacks Only Comedy Festival.

He helped start the award-winning Pure Monate Show and has recorded several DVD’s of his stand-up shows. He’s appeared in feature films Hoteleng, Gums & Noses and God Is African and produced and directed Taxi Ride, which was developed into a mini-series for Mzansi Magic on DStv.

With so many career ‘firsts’, it's no wonder that David Kau is one of the most sought-after comedians on the continent.

Experience the sights & sounds of legendary Sophiatown at The Carousel Casino’s Cheyenne Saloon with the Kofifi Movement. A vintage-themed evening featuring the hottest pantsula, the swinging-est jazz and a massive dose of nostalgia!

Urbanisation in early 20th century South Africa led to the creation of ‘townships’ for migrant labourers. They had their own distinct feel and lifestyles – but none was more famous than Sophiatown or Kofifi as it was affectionately known.

Fast forward to 2014 and the Kofifi Movement seeks to celebrate and honour those who lived in Sophiatown. Recalling the heady shebeen days, with all its tsotsi fashion and pantsula jive, Kofifi delivers a themed evening quite unlike any other. The hottest DJ’s spin classics to get the blood pumping as fashionistas strut their 50’s and 60’s style.

Take a trip down memory lane on the 09th of August 2014. Doors open at 18h00. Tickets are available at the venue and are priced at R50.
