In April 2015 Francois van Coke and Karen Zoid released arguably the most beautiful ballad of the year, Toe Vind Ek Jou. The song instantly captured thousands of hearts all over the country, switching on a light in the dark. Toe Vind Ek Jou became the first Afrikaans release to hit the Number 1 spot on commercial radio charts in South African History. In an unprecedented success, the music video has reached almost a million views on YouTube to date. Due to public demand, these two legendary artists decided to come together for a full length, hot-blooded rock and roll production, and will visit Carnival City's Big Top Arena on Friday, 8 July. Bookings can be made at Computicket on 0861 915 8000 or at www.computicket.com. Groups of more than 10 will receive substantial discounts; please phone Lefra Productions on 011 815 3000, or send an e-mail to marketing@lefra.com. You're also welcome to discuss fundraising activities with to. For more information, visit www.lefra.com or send an e-mail to info@lefra.co.za. The production is presented with the proud support of Christo Strydom Nutrition, Stuttaford Van Lines, RSG, Sounds Good and McCarthy Volkswagen Arcadia.
Karen Zoid has become such an important part of the home grown scene that her name is now the byword for emotionally charged, downright incendiary South African rock music. What's more, throughout a career spanning more than 10 years, Zoid has managed that unusual and frequently tricky feat of balancing popular appeal with critical praise; of securing an audience of both Afrikaans and English speakers; of retaining her individuality in a market known for its desire for sameness.
Her unmistakable voice, razor sharp lyrics and passionate performances make her a one of a kind performer. Not to mention that she is always pushing boundaries on stage, whether it be collaborative performances with SA legends such as Vusi Mahlasela and Zolani Mahola (Freshlyground) or performing her 'guilty pleasures' in her show concept "Under the Covers." Zoid's super-charged rock energy is an ability to write gorgeous, delicately rendered songs that speak of the emotional vortex that drives this exceptional artist to keep creating. 'Drown Out the Noise', her latest album, shows that Karen Zoid is South Africa's premier female rock artist, full stop. The album entered at #1 on the charts.
Zoid currently hosts her own talk show "Republiek van Zoid Afrika" on KykNet, and has just been announced as one of the judges for The Voice, South Africa.
Francois van Coke rose to fame as the iconic front man of legendary South African rock bands Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel. On the 8th of April 2015, Francois launched his self-titled debut solo album with the release of the most poignant ballad of the year - Toe Vind Ek Jou.
Records caved quickly after this release. It was the first Afrikaans album and single to simultaneously jump to number 1 positions on the SA iTunes Store this year. The song was downloaded more than 20 000 times on iTunes thus reaching Platinum status as a single. The music video for Toe Vind Ek Jou was viewed over a million times within 6 month and was announced as the biggest Afrikaans music video of 2015. With numerous number 1's on radio, massive media coverage and regular sold out shows, Francois' solo career hit the ground running.
Francois kicked off his solo career on 20 February 2015 with the release of his first single, Moontlik Nooit from his website. On the same day, he released a limited edition 7" vinyl with this single and an exclusive acoustic version of Skree on the B-Side.
This album celebrates a new chapter in Francois van Coke's personal life and musical career. It is a rock based album, imbued with folk, country, alternative, industrial and even pop influences. The songs as a whole are not as heavy as the bands (Fokofpolisiekar & Van Coke Kartel) Francois plays in. Francois teamed-up with old and new friends to bring this album to life. They are Jedd Kossew, Karen Zoid, Laudo Liebenberg, Hunter Kennedy and Arno Carstens. Every song on this album is individually unique, but there runs a golden thread through the album that is exceptionally Francois van Coke.
