The Women’s World Cup is now in its fourth year, inspiring millions in its global reach through print, website, radio and television platforms. It is a unique event where players play for the pride of their nation, and local communities benefit from the proceeds of the tournament.
The event has been staged in South Africa for the past three years, and is once again back on South African soil at the world renowned Sun City resort, in the North West Province.
Sanctioning bodies the Ladies Professional Golf Tour and the Ladies European Tour will make their final team selections during mid October 2007.
Twenty nations, comprising forty players, will compete for a purse of $1.4 million at the 2008 event. It will be played on the same course as the 2007 event - South Africa’s premier course - the Gary Player Country Club, Sun City.
The 2008 event will remain a three-day, 54-hole competition, but with a slightly different format from previous years.
Day 1 - 18 holes of Betterball; Day 2 - 18 holes of Foursomes; and the final Day 3 - 18 holes of Betterball competition. The winners will be determined by combining each team's scores from all three days.
Once selected, full player profiles will be included under each country's tab.
Local communities benefit from the proceeds of event ticket sales, local craft market stalls, and corporate social investment programs set up in the North West Province. These include a hanging flower basket enterprise, school programs, an HIV/Aids housing project and junior golf development clinics.
