Experience the wonders of Africa's South Eastern Coastline. The Fish River Sun offer travellers unspoilt golden beaches for safe swimming, spear fishing, surf angling, and peaceful relaxation.
The Eastern Province Coast is called Africa's Sunshine Coast because it has more proven sunshine days per year than any other part of the South African coastline. It has a temperate climate which avoids the tropical humidity to the east and the cold wet winters of the west; instead it offers halcyon summers and winters of golden days and crisp nights.
The Fish River Sun is located between Port Elizabeth and East London and are therefore at the Heart of the Sunshine Coast. Lapped by the Indian Ocean, the Sunshine Coast is home to thousands of species of sea life including an abundance of dolphins and a whale every now and again.
The nearby wide tidal Kowie River stretches from river mouth to indigenous forest, and is ideal for pleasure cruising, angling, waterskiing, canoeing, and bird watching. It also provides safe access to the sea from the harbour for those who wish to try their hand at deep-sea fishing or scuba diving.
A small reserve has been proclaimed in the area where the Great Fish River flows into the Indian Ocean. At low tide, when extensive areas of mudflat are exposed, thousand of wading birds - such as greenshanks and little stints - congregate to feed on the numerous invertebrate organisms that shelter in the mud.
