Musical tribute to the king of rock n roll.
Throughout the annals of entertainment history Elvis Presley remains the undisputed king of rock n roll, the master of entertainment. Now, in a tribute to his musical genius, James Marais has produced and directed a new show entitled The Elvis Story to be hosted at GrandWest’s Roxy Revue Bar from 25 September to 1 November, Wednesdays through to Saturdays.
The show will span Elvis’ career from the early years to his first television appearances, which had to be filmed from the waist up because his pelvic movements were considered to be too lewd for audiences at the time. In addition to his success as a singer, Elvis also received acclaim as an actor, appearing in a number of popular blockbuster films.
The Elvis Story features a talented cast headed up by James Marais in the role of Elvis and backed by a cast of 12 musicians and entertainers. Fans can expect to hear 33 old Elvis classics from his legendary rock songs such as Blue Suede Shoes, Jailhouse Rock and Burning Love to his moving ballads - Are you Lonesome Tonight, The Wonder of You and the hauntingly beautiful Suspicious Minds.
The band consists of Greg Verco on drums, Warren Lomberg on lead guitar, Carl Hering on bass, Kevin Abbott on keyboards, Morgan King on saxophone, Dawid Watkyns on trumpet, Craig Kalis and Candis Du Plessie on vocals supported by Claire Schrickker and Nicoll Pitt as backup dancers and rounded off by Dennis Baker as the MC host of the show.
