All About Slot Machines

General Casino Information

Smart Cards
Sun International offers coinless gaming on all slot machines and eliminates the need to carry heaps of notes and piles of coins around. It’s safe, clean and secure.

There are two types of smart cards, which can be used to play

  • A general smart card, which has no benefits attached and can only be used to play slot machines and tables games in the casino where it is issued. A R10 deposit is levied for the general smart card, which will be refunded to you on return of your card.
  • An MVG smart card is a personalised card that is issued free to all guests whom sign-up to the MVG Programme. As a Most Valued Guest you will have your play recorded and will be awarded MVG points when playing on the slot machines and tables.

A Personal Identification Number (PIN) should be placed on your MVG smart cards to further protect any cash redemption and all MVG transactions.

Slots
Sun International offers a wide range of traditional reel slots, the latest multi-line video slots and video poker. These games are available in various denominations. Using your smart card, you are able to play various machine denomina¬tions without having to change your smart card.

To use your smart card in the slot machine, simply insert the smart card, chip facing forward, into the card reader on the right of the slot machine. Once your smart card has registered, load money via the note acceptors attached to each slot machine. To move away, simply push the “CASH-OUT” button on the slot machine and all your credits will be reloaded to your smart card.

Note Acceptors
All the slot machines are fitted with note acceptors, which are activated on insertion of a smart card.
These machines can accept R10, R20, R50, R100 and R200 notes, and are designed to register the Rand value of each note inserted on the credit meter on the slot machine. On cash-out your credits will be loaded back onto your smart card. The credits on your smart card can be converted to notes at a Smart Cashier machine, which, for your convenience, pays out up to R1,500 per day, in cash, or alternatively, from the Cash Desk which is able to pay out any denomination.

Jackpot and Paytables
The glass section at the top of the front of the slot machine is called the Paytable. These tables indicate payoff values, are easy to read and self-explanatory. Each slot machine has a payline (although in some cases a machine may have more than one payline). You will usually find it printed on the glass in front of the spinning reels. The payline is the jackpot indicator for the machine i.e. any combination of symbols on the reels under one of these lines which matches up to a combination on the paytable will win the equivalent jackpot. Paytables change from one slot machine to another. Once a jackpot has been won, the slot machine will pay out in one of two ways:

  • The full amount will be automatically loaded onto your smart card after verification by the slots attendant.
  • The entire amount will be paid by a slots attendant with a slot machine payment form (this is called a slot short) which can only be redeemed at the Cash Desk in the casino where it was won.

Tables
Dealers, inspectors and pit bosses control the games on the casino tables. Queries directly relevant to the game being played may be directed to the dealer, however general enquiries need to be directed to the inspector or pit boss, so as not to disrupt the continuity of the game. Players are not permitted to enter the cordoned off area behind each table, as this is reserved for working staff only.

Casino Value Chips used for play on the tables, can be purchased from the Cash Desk and at all of the tables. You may also load money onto your smart card at the Cash Desk and use your smart card at the tables to buy chips for your favourite game.

Table denominations may vary from game-to-game and table-to-table. Each table will display a stake board showing the minimum table bet available.

Progressive Jackpots
Once a player has won a jackpot, they may choose their preferred method of payment. These may be chips, cash or a cheque, which will be issued from the tables or the Cash Desk.

Smart Cashier Machines
A number of Smart Cashier Machines are located around the casino floor which can perform a number of useful functions, including dispensing cash in the same way an ATM does, up to a maximum of R1,500 per day from your smart card. Please use the Smart Cashier menu for further functions. When you’re ready to go home, simply insert your card into the Smart Cashier, which will retain your general card and refund you your deposit, or as a Most Valued Guest,  you can redeem your cash off your MVG smart card, up to the value of R1,500 per day.

Salon Privé
An exclusive high roller tables and slots gaming area has been set aside for those players wanting to make use of a high value gaming area. This area is strictly reserved for MVG Platinum guests and players only.
