Entertainment Line-Up

One Night Only - Friday, 21 November 2008

As all of us fans know Gerrie is one of South Africa's top singer-artists that will leave you begging for more. Back by popular demand with the Show “Ek Sing vir jou Bles”,

I am sure you all remember when Gerrie's career ignited in 2002 during the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival at Oudtshoorn with his hit-song "Annemarie". This hit appeared on the SA top 20 immediately after the launch and delivered his first golden award within 3 months for his album "Annemarie". After this huge success, there was no turning point for Gerrie and he recorded the follow-up album "Hei Jy!" which delivered his second golden-award, so… book your date now!

He has proven himself through hard work and by keeping his audience in the palm of his hand with a sincere and modest, unassuming nature, as a versatile artist who wouldn't back down for pop music, ballades, light opera or even jazz. His favorite singer, after all, is Dean Martin, surely you don’t want to miss this spectacular show. He will definitely make his mark again at the Cheyenne.

This Afrikaans rooted music band is based in Jazz, Ghoema and Marabi. The music came out of the working class and its heroes were miners and railway workers. Now it’s been revived by the popular Radio Kalahari Orkes. This type of Boeremusiek was music produced by a rebel born 60 years too early, and it’s the same music that kept De Lange off the radio in the 30s. The band is led by the best supporting actor, Ian Roberts.

Ian Roberts was born in Fort Beaufort in the Eastern Cape in 1952. He grew up on a citrus farm near there and attended St. Andrew’s Prep and College in Grahamstown.

He finished his army training in 1971 and had been employed in five different jobs by the end of 1972. He completed a course in photography, at Port Elizabeth Technical College, between 1973 and 1975. In 1976 he went to Rhodes University to do a BA, majoring in Speech and Drama and Social Anthropology. He once wanted to become an architect. He spent three years learning to be a photographer.

He’s worked as a quantity surveyor, a foreman in a glass factory, a door-to-door salesman for a publishing company and as a citrus farmer, as well as helping an uncle run a firm that tarred driveways and managing an African clothing shop in Port Elizabeth. It was seven years after he left school at St. Andrews, Grahamstown, before Ian Roberts decided he wanted to be an actor. This idol of music and television is set to dazzle and delight audiences of all ages.
