Beaches
Port Elizabeth is famous for its long golden beaches, historic heritage and a unique coastal climate. The calm waters of Algoa Bay, its shores lapped by the warm Indian Ocean, make Port Elizabeth a mecca for all beach and watersport activities.
Billed as the new jewel in the crown of Eastern Cape tourism, Port Elizabeth's new casino and conference centre, the Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment World is located across the road from the premier Hobie Beach.
Stick to Hobie Beach if you like the buzz and or head out to Sardinia Bay for miles of virtually deserted snow-white sand. Happy Valley, Humewood Beach and King's Beach are other beautiful beaches also available in Port Elizabeth.
Happy Valley, with its gentle lawns, lily ponds, and beautiful gardens, is short walk-away from Humewood Beach-one of the finest bathing beaches in Port Elizabeth. In summer the gardens are illuminated by a colourful display of lights and various nursery-rhyme characters. You can have a game of chess on a giant chessboard or enjoys snack at one of the restaurants nearby.
King's Beach is a popular recreational area, with excellent bathing, pools, water chutes, a delightful mini-golf course, supertube and a quaint miniature train to keep the children happy.
The Oceanarium is regarded as one of Port Elizabeth's major attractions, the popular dolphin and seal performances take place at 11h00 and 15h00 daily. Exhibits include an underwater observation area in the aquarium, a dolphin research centre, various smaller tanks of 40 different species of bony fish as well as two larger tanks which display sharks and stingrays. |
